Electrolysis Hair Removal Method
When it comes to hair removal, this “practice” of using electricity, or rather electrical impulses, to help remove hair follicles is called electrology. Electrolysis is the actual process of chemically separating bonded compounds and elements after the introduction of the electrical current. In other words, after electricity is applied, the body reacts to the electrical shock by creating impulses that eventually helps destroy or weakens the hair follicles.
When hair follicles are damaged, it is very unlikely that hair will grow in that area again. Or if hair does manage to grow, it will have a weaker hold and can be easily removed by skin buffing.
The Electrology Steps
This hair removal method basically works this way:
- A qualified electrolysis practitioner, also called as an electrologist, slides a thin electricity-conducting probe into each follicle. But don’t worry; this initial step is not as painful as it sounds. If done correctly, the insertion of the hair-thin probe into each hair follicle should not puncture the skin or induce severe pain. Yes, there may be a small sting at first, but the pain should quickly die away. Think of the probe insertion process as somewhat similar to the practice of needle insertion in acupuncture.
- When the probes are in place, electricity is sent surging through the follicle which causes damage to the keratin and follicles of the hair. Electrolysis should bring about one of these three desires results, depending on what electrolysis method is used:
- One, there is a formation of caustic soda or lye underneath the skin retarding hair growth. This usually results from the galvanic method.
- Two, the area becomes overheated and the entire hair matrix is literally burned in its place. In this case, the thermolysis method is used.
- And lastly, these two prior conditions present themselves and thereby removing all possible hair growths in that area; both the galvanic and the thermolysis methods are used simultaneously. This is the reason why electrolysis is considered as a permanent solution to unsightly hair problems.
Precautions When It Comes to Electrology
For back hair growth, electrolysis is particularly ideal since the wider area of the skin allows the electrologists to manipulate the probes better. However, it should be noted that this hair removal method, as with all hair removal methods, has varying results from one individual to the other.
It would also be best to undergo full medical check up with your doctor, and verify what medications you are taking as of the moment.
Individuals with pace makers and other mechanical implants are dissuaded from undergoing electrolysis. Individuals who have a history of heart ailments and those taking powerful prescriptions for different heart conditions are also not advised to take this hair removal method; as with individuals who are advanced in age.
It would therefore be wise to seek medical counsel first before attempting electrolysis.
Additional Notes on Electrology
- The process of electrolysis is a long term (sometimes life long) treatment. For some individuals, a once a week treatment is enough. However, others would need a twice a year treatment.
- Electrolysis charges per-hour treatments. Some individuals go for an hour long treatment session once a week; others would take longer.
- Electrolysis also needs the services of a duly licensed and certified electrologist, preferably someone who has been in the business for a while.
